Sigma Chi Historian - Social Media Coordinator (April ‘23 - April ‘24) @sigmachi_fsc
In my junior year of college, I was elected the Historian of my fraternity. The Historian is responsible for monitoring and creating content for our social media, handling the merchandise for recruitment and philanthropy events, and documenting fond moments through creating a scrapbook. This was the first social media page I have ever run for an organization and it was a job I gave my all during my time as an officer.
The first major event I had to coordinate was Derby Days 2023, our annual philanthropy week where we raise money on our campus to support the Huntsman Cancer Institute. During this event, we raised $26,000 as a chapter from the support of our friends and fellow students.
After having a year to experience Derby Days myself, I got to implement more posts and ideas into the social media campaign for Derby Days 2024. Changing the usual theme of a derby race into a baseball-style pennant, creating a separate post for the sorority members who are the face of their organization in creating events to raise money on campus, and creating graphics for brothers who are volunteering to shave their head after a certain amount of money has been raised. This was the event where I did the most planning and preparation to ensure a smooth social media campaign.
I had a lot of fun being able to run the social media for my fraternity. I got to create mini-campaigns for recruitment events, member spotlights, posts for important days like Bid Day and Initiation, posts for formal events, posts with sweethearts, our national leadership workshop we attended as a chapter, and fun posts that capture the brotherhood of our organization.
As I look for jobs that I want to chase after graduation, I would love to showcase my knowledge in social media marketing for a business in which I can give all my focus, time, and energy.
